The 6th Line Infantry Regiment - El 6è. Regiment d'Infanteria de Línia.

The sixth Regiment of Line Infantry is made up by the standard number of six companies, one of them of grenadiers and the other five being fusileer companies. The grenadiers company can converge with other unit's grenadiers for special cases such as storming enemy fortifications or spearhead a charge into enemy lines. In such a case, the officers commanding the converged unit are to be the senior ones.

The regiment was first created as the Saint Narcissus regiment back in the War for Independence, in the batch of army units which were created after the decision by the Catalan government to resist against all odds for the last year of the campaign, when Catalàunia stood by its own, alone and abandoned by her allies, for more than a year. Then it was an unit thought to reunite all german soldiers and commanders who rejected evacuation and stayed faithful to the Catalan cause. Since then, the regiment has kept with the tradition and recruits from European foreigners, mainly German (Austrian included), Dutch, Italians and French; British and Irish are recruited into the 8^th line infantry regiment.

Although having been officially renamed as the 6th Line Infantry Regiment, the unit is still referred at, officiously, by its old name, as is costumary in the army of Catalàunia. Its deployment is like other units' being based in different places around the country and alternating its deployment periodically with that of other units, although it is intended to keep the regiment divided into as few subunits as possible. Usually they are posted in major cities where local militias and police forces can exert a good measure of control as members of the regiment are quarrelsome, being of different national and religious origin and having differing previous allegiances. Its uniform colour and facings are the same as those at its foundation times. The cut of the uniforms follow the Catalan standard which is modelled very closely on the British patterns.

As every other infantry unit in the Catalan army, the 6th Line Infantry Regiment is one battalion strong. There is a provision for a second battalion, of identical composition, to be formed only in the coming of war and then only by the specific consent and mandate of the Generalitat government. Its members would then be coming straight from standard recruitment, being of Catalan origin also.

Malgrat haver estat oficialment rebatejat com el 6è Regiment d'Infanteria de Línia, la unitat encara es coneix, oficiosament, pel seu antic nom, com és de costum a l'exèrcit de Catalàunia. El seu desplegament és com a les altres unitats i se situa a llocs diferents a tot el país, alternant-se periòdicament el seu desplegament amb el d'altres unitats, encara que es prova de dividir el regiment en el mínim possible de subunitats. Normalment es despleguen a ciutats grans on les milícies locals i les forces policials poden exercir una bona mesura de control essent els seus membres força buscabregues, essent d'orígens nacionals i religiosos diversos i tenint diferents fidelitats anteriors. El color del seu uniforme i de la seva divisa són els mateixos que al temps de la seva fundació. El tall dels uniformes segueix l'estàndard català que es va inspirar molt fidelment en els models britànics.

Com totes les unitats d'infanteria en l'exèrcit català, el 6è Regiment d'Infanteria de Línia és del tamany d'un batalló. Hi ha una disposició per al reclutament d'un segon batalló, d'idèntica composició, que es formaria només en cas d'arribada de la guerra i només pel consentiment específic i el mandat del govern de la Generalitat. Els seus membres vindrien directament del reclutament estàndard.

The regiment was first created as the Our Lady of the Rose Bush regiment back in the War for Independence, in the batch of army units which were created after the decision by the Catalan government to resist against all odds for the last year of the campaign, when Catalàunia stood by its own, alone and abandoned by her allies, for more than a year. It was formed from the remnants of the Royal Catalan Guards which had rejected to be evacuated to Imperial lands with the rest of that regiment and stayed on Catalan soil.

Although having been officially renamed as the 5th Line Infantry Regiment, the unit is still referred at, officiously, by its old name, as is costumary in the army of Catalàunia. Its deployment and recruitment are like other units' being based in different places around the country and alternating its deployment periodically with that of other units. The 2^nd Line Infantry Regiment. El 2on. Regiment d'Infanteria de Línia.

The second Regiment of Line Infantry is made up by the standard number of six companies, one of them of grenadiers and the other five being fusileer companies. The grenadiers company can converge with other unit's grenadiers for special cases such as storming enemy fortifications or spearhead a charge into enemy lines. In such a case, the officers commanding the converged unit are to be the senior ones.

The regiment was first created as the City of Barcelona regiment back in the War for Independence, being one of the oldest units in the army. Although having been officially renamed as the 2^nd Line Infantry Regiment, the unit is still referred at, officiously, by its old name, as is costumary in the army of Catalàunia. Its deployment and recruitment are like other units' being based in defferent places around the country and alternating its deployment periodically with that of other units. Its red uniform colour is the same as in its foundation times, having changed facings to a buff colour instead of yellow. The cut of the uniforms follow the Catalan standard which is modelled very closely on the British patterns.

As every other infantry unit in the Catalan army, the 2^nd Line Infantry Regiment is one battalion strong. There is a provision for a second battalion, of identical composition, to be formed only in the coming of war and then only by the specific consent and mandate of the Generalitat government. Its members would then be coming straight from standard recruitment.

El seu desplegament i reclutament són com a les altres unitats i se situa a llocs diferents a tot el país, alternant-se periòdicament el seu desplegament amb el d'altres unitats. El color vermell del seu uniforme és el mateix que el de la seva fundació, havent canviat des de llavors el color de la divisa a un ocre de pell d'ant en comptes del groc inicial. El tall dels uniformes segueix l'estàndard català que es va inspirar molt fidelment en els models britànics.

On uniforms, equipment and training matters – D'afers sobre uniformes, equipament i instruccions.

As you may have seen in the last post about the Generalitat Infantry Regiment, the Catalan uniforms not only resemble but are identical to British uniforms of the mid XVIIIth century times. That is on purpose. After the War for Independence, a strong British influence was common in Catalàunia. Catalan units had already been training and fighting following British styles, platoon firing for example, in the War for Independence, and were also equipped with loads of British accoutrements, weapons and pieces of equipment. In later times, Catalan strategic interests were in line with British ones, eager as Catalans were to shake any chance to be retained or regained by a foreign yoke and to fend off any possible influence by their big neighbours, France and Spain. They formed a natural alliance with Britain, Portugal and the Netherlands, and willingly looked for a look distinct to that of their neighbours and which still remembered these same neighbours of which were the Catalan allegiances and where did their friendships lay. And also incidentally what could mean to mess with Catalàunia.

Also, The dire need for a naval branch of the armed forces which could both fence off piracy and keep a measure of independence of action against any potential threat called for an invigorated interest in the British navy, which was seen as professional and capable. More of it, the resulting situation put the Catalans as natural British allies, and not only that but staunch ones too. And obviously, the Catalan claims to sovereignty over (or comparted with) the Balearic Isles needed to be founded in practicality on a capable enough navy and that again called for both cooperation with the British and the rising and keeping of a similarly professional and able navy.

Finally, the main commercial interests of Catalàunia laid directly in Britain and the Netherlands and also now in the Americas. It had been so since the late XVIIth century. The spirits and wine northern European markets were very participated by the Catalan merchants and these were the beachhead for other Catalan made products like finished textiles, fine weapons and others. The final, particular triumph in the War for Independence had kept these interests alive and had augmented them. Also Catalans were able now to circumvent former limitations in commerce with the Americas which were imposed on them by former Spanish monarchs. Now the enterprising Catalan merchants were capable to deal with the Americas directly or by way of British and Dutch intermediaries and the Catalan economy had experienced a correspondent growing by which Catalàunia was justly nicknamed as the Mediterranean Holland.

All in all, not only were Catalans strategically interested in a number of ways to share views with Britain but also keen to share military experiences with a nation which like Catalàunia itself had to rely in a comparatively small and so a professional and stout army and a powerful navy too. To this the Catalans copied even the uniforms and, to their possibilities, the ways to remain free both militarily and economically.

Com podeu haver vist a la darrera entrada sobre el Regiment d'Infanteria de la Generalitat, els uniformes catalans no només s'assemblen, sinó que són idèntics als uniformes britànics de l'època de mitjans del segle XVIII. Això és a propòsit. Després de la Guerra de la Independència, una forta influència britànica es va fer comuna a Catalàunia. Les unitats catalanes ja havien estat practicant i lluitant seguint estils britànics, disparant per pelotons per exemple, durant la Guerra d'Independència, i també van ser equipats amb un munt de pertrets, armes i peces d'equipament britànics. Als darrers temps, els interessos estratègics catalans estaven en línia amb els britànics, desitjosos com estaven els catalans a fer trontollar qualsevol possibilitat de ser retinguts o recuperats per un jou estranger i per a defensar-se de qualsevol possible influència dels seus grans veïns, França i Espanya. Es va formar una aliança natural amb Gran Bretanya, Portugal i els Països Baixos, i voluntàriament es va cercar un aspecte diferent de la dels veïns i que recordés aquests mateixos veïns a on eren les lleialtats catalanes i a on eren les seves amistats. I també per cert el que podria significar ficar-se amb Catalàunia.

A més, la urgent necessitat d'una branca naval de les forces armades que pogués enfrontar-se a la pirateria i mantenir una certa independència d'acció davant de qualsevol amenaça potencial, promogué un interès vigoritzat a la marina britànica, que era considerada com a professional i capaç. Més encara, la situació resultant posava als catalans com aliats naturals i ferms dels britànics. I, òbviament, la reivindicació catalana de sobirania sobre (o compartida amb) les Illes Balears necessitava fundar-se a la pràctica a tenir una marina amb capacitat suficient i que de nou demanava una cooperació amb els britànics i l'augment i manteniment d'una flota professional i capaç de manera similar a la britànica.

Finalment, els principals interessos comercials de Catalàunia se situaven directament a la Gran Bretanya i els Països Baixos i ara també a les Amèriques. Hi havien estat des de finals del segle XVII. Els mercats dels aiguardents i del vi del nord d'Europa eren participats molt activament pels comerciants catalans i aquests van ser els caps de pont per a altres productes catalans, com els acabats tèxtils, les armes de qualitat i altres. El triomf final i particular a la Guerra d'Independència havia mantingut vius aquests interessos i els havia augmentat. També els catalans van ser capaços ara d'eludir les limitacions anteriors en el comerç amb les Amèriques, que els van ser imposades per antics monarques espanyols. Ara els emprenedors comerciants catalans van ser capaços de comerciar a les Amèriques directament o a través d'intermediaris britànics i holandesos, i l'economia catalana va experimentar un creixement corresponent tal què Catalàunia era anomenada amb justícia com l'Holanda del Mediterrani.

Amb tot, no només eren els catalans estratègicament interessat en un bon nombre de punts a compartir punts de vista amb Gran Bretanya, sinó també molt interessats a compartir experiències militars amb una nació que igual que Catalàunia havia de confiar en un exèrcit proporcionalment petit i per tant professional i robust i també una poderosa armada. Per això els catalans copiaren fins i tot els uniformes i, fins a les seves possibilitats, les formes de romandre lliures militarment i econòmicament.

The Generalitat Grenadier Guards Regiment. El Regiment de Guàrdies Granaders de la Generalitat.

The first Regiment of Infantry is made up entirely of grenadiers and is considered as the senior and only Guard unit of the army. Its six companies are of course grenadier companies, and one of them acts as permanent protectors of the Catalan government guarding its installations and patrolling the place the government is at at any moment. This role is shared by all companies, taking seasonal turns.

There is no senior company and so companies also take turns to share the Colonel's colours which in other regiments are taken by the first, senior company. In battle, the unit does not converge with other unit's grenadiers but those just join the regiment for a given time and then return to their parent units. For that time, those grenadiers are to obey the first regiment's officers.

The regiment was first created as the Generalitat regiment back in the War for Independence and has kept its name since then, being the only unit to do so. Its uniforms colours and facings are also the same, only changing the cut of the uniforms. Members of the regiment participated in many heroic actions of war, both in the siege of Barcinona and outside the capital.

As every other infantry unit in the Catalan army, the Generalitat Regiment is one battalion strong. There is a provision for a second battalion, this time formed only by fusileers (musketeers), to be formed only in the coming of war and then only by the specific consent and mandate of the Generalitat government. Its members would then be coming straight from others units which then in turn should recruit to strength again.

El primer regiment d'infanteria es compon enterament de granaders i es considera com la unitat superior en grau de l'exèrcit i la única unitat de la Guàrdia. Les seves sis companyies són de granaders, i una d'elles actua com a guàrdia permanent del govern català protegint les seves instal·lacions i patrullant el lloc al que el govern està en un moment donat. Aquesta funció és compartida per totes les companyies, per torns estacionals.

No hi ha una companyia sènior i així totes fan també torns per a compartir la bandera Coronela que en altres regiments és portat per la primera companyia per la seva superioritat. En batalla, la unitat no convergeix amb granaders de cap altra unitat, sinó que aquests s'uneixen al regiment durant un temps determinat i després tornen a les seves unitats dels pares. Durant aquest període, aquests granaders han d'obeir als oficials del primer regiment.

El regiment va ser creat com el regiment de la Generalitat a la Guerra d'Independència i ha mantingut el seu nom des de llavors, essent l'única unitat que ho ha fet. Els seus colors d'uniformes i divisa són també els mateixos, només canvia el patró dels uniformes. Membres del regiment van participar en moltes accions heroiques de la guerra, tant en el setge de Barcinona com a fora de la capital.

Com totes les unitats d'infanteria en l'exèrcit català, el Regiment de la Generalitat és compost per un sol batalló. Hi ha una provisió per a un segon batalló, aquesta vegada format només per fusellers (mosqueters), només en cas de guerra i només pel consentiment específic i el mandat del govern de la Generalitat. Els seus membres vindrien directament de les altres unitats que al seu torn haurien de reclutar un altre cop per a retornar a la seva força original.
